Mythew St. Monterey Pop Festival

Cavern Club & Live Lounge

50 years ago the Monterey Pop Festival took place in California, which served as a template for future music festivals including Woodstock in 1969. Legendary Beatles DJ, Bob Wooler, often referred to Mathew Street as ‘Mythew Street’ due to the amount of inaccuracies and myths surrounding the Cavern. The Monterey Pop Festival was beset with similar problems such as rumours, cancellations and no shows by artistes ranging from the Beach Boys, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones. The Beatles were also rumoured to make an appearance due to the involvement in the festival of their close friend and ex-press officer, Derek Taylor. Artistes that did appear included the Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, the Who and Hendrix. Tonight we will stage the gig that could have been… if all had turned up! The Mythew Street Monterey Pop Festival… fifty years on!

John & Paul: “It was Fete”

(only available as part of a package)

St. Peter’s Church

“What about the time we met…” Sixty years ago, on 6thJuly, a certain John Lennon was introduced to a young Paul McCartney. The rest, as they say, is history. This meeting took place at the Woolton Garden Fete at St. Peter’s Church and the whole event is being replicated especially for you. John & Paul: “It was Fete” will take place on the same field with the full support of the Church, the School and the Woolton Community. A great way of raising funds and profile for this historic area whilst at the same time interacting with the Quarrymen, Julia Baird and the various other luminaries who were actually there on that fete-ful day.
