Byrne, Mike & The Sunrockers

Byrne, Mike & The Sunrockers

They are known as one of the top authentic rock ‘n’ roll bands on the circuit, travelling the length and breadth of the country to play the hits of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins and more!

Mike Byrne was born in Liverpool and a regular at The Cavern Club in the early 60s, going to see Mersey Beat bands as a young lad. He was quickly influenced to form his own band, Mike & The Thunderbirds, making their Cavern debt on Saturday 22nd February 1962, Mike turned professional in 1963 with Them Grimbles and has been reelin’ and rockin’ ever since.

Mike & his wife Bernadette created The Beatles Story in 1990, detailed in their new book ‘The Birth of the Beatles Story,’ and have been regularly involved in all things 50s and 60s across Merseyside.

The Sunrockers play good old fashioned Rock ‘n’ Roll, the way it should be played, with high energy and authenticity.

After Mike and the Sunrockers appeared with Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry at the Liverpool Empire one reviewer said:

“But if you came to this concert looking for full-bloodied rock ‘n’ roll, then the first 45 minutes were the highlight of the evening when Liverpool’s Mike Byrne & the Sunrockers stormed their way through a superb set. With the bass player frenetically slapping the double bass, Jimmy the drummer beating out ‘Peggy Sue’ on an old drum case and Mike Byrne leading the band from the front as well as excelling on the piano. This was the closest the evening got to recreating the spirit of the 50’s”
