Shakers, The (England)

The Cavern Club’s resident Merseybeat group have been keeping it beat since their formation by drummer Tony in 2005. In that time they have established themselves as Liverpool’s premier exponents of the original Mersey Sound today. As well as their weekly ‘Shakin’ Sunday’ Cavern ‘beat sessions’, they have played many Beatles festivals around Europe including the ‘Abbey Road On The River’ festival in the USA plus all the major 60s festivals in the UK.

With a successful touring theatre show on the boards, ‘This Is Merseybeat’, (telling the story of the Mersey Sound from the Cavern to Merseymania) and their vinyl single ’Hi-Fi Baby’ on Vee Tone Records attaining the number one slot on American radio over the last few years, the group have certainly kept rockin’!

So, if you want to experience real Merseybeat direct from Number 10, Mathew Street, let’s go down the Cavern and twist ‘n’ shout with The Shakers –“The best Merseybeat group out of Liverpool since the 60s!” – THE BEAT magazine.

The Shakers have been regulars at the festival since 2006, often backing legendary 60s artists from Liverpool and beyond! This year, among other shows at our regular venues, they will be hosting the Grosvenor Ballroom stage in Wallasey as part of our Mad Day Out on The Wirral on Saturday. The Beatles played there on 14 occasions in 1960-61.
